WinRAR is a program to create, manage, convert, compress and decompress archives of any type, especially RAR and ZIP. Perfectly compatible with XP, Vista, 7 and 8. WinRAR is a program to "zip" files. Ever heard this word? Although it derives from the best known, but also the most obsolete, competitor WinZip, WinRAR is also a program to compress files so that they take up less space on the hard disk.

WinRAR allows you to insert various files of different formats and sizes within the same archive so you can share them more easily and quickly, via email or chat, for example. But you can also choose the degree of compression of the file and decompress archives of 14 different formats, including ISO. It is compatible with Windows 7/8 and also has a 64-bit version.

WinRAR is not free, contrary to alternatives like ZipGenius or 7-Zip, but offers many additional features: for example, it allows you to protect file contents with a password to hide content from prying eyes or create self-extracting files.

WinRAR is a very easy to use program when it comes to decompressing already compacted files, while it can become a little more difficult for novice users to compress due to the many options available. The extraction of the files can however be further simplified by using the Assistant button (wizard).

How to use WinRAR
To open a compressed file, just right click on the WinRAR archive then on Extract file and finally select the destination. Or you can run WinRAR directly and, once inside the program, double click on the file you want to "unpack". To create a compressed file, instead, you can click with the right mouse button and select New / WinRAR Archive, right click on the file to be compressed and select Add to an archive.
